The course’s goal is to prepare parents & care providers for the most unlikely of events. As a result, the focus is on simplicity of action to increase the likelihood of a good outcome in a potential health crisis. Although it follows the guidelines of the American Heart Association, it is not rigid in it’s approach. You will have plenty of “hands on” time with a life-like mannequin in simulated emergency situations and, with our guidance, be able to respond in a helpful way. We look forward to having you join us in this exciting journey of discovery and self reliance. It is a most rewarding feeling to know that if an unexpected event occurs, you will have increased confidence in your ability to make a difference in those lives you value most.

Having a baby may be a joyful experience and may be something that you are looking forward to or even planning in your relationship. But, even with this joy and expectation, it can often be one of the most challenging things that can happen to any relationship. Having one child means that your relationship will experience changes. The woman you were before you were a mother, the man you were before you were a father, alters as much as your life alters. It follows that our roles as partners change quite a bit as well. If you want to keep your love strong in the midst of all this change and all of these new dynamics, you will both have to work at it. This class will provide you as a couple some practical tools in order to baby proof or child proof your relationship. We will discuss not only the new postpartum relationship, but also the relationship as it changes as we get further away from the new births of our babies (whether it be your first or your fifth). $45/couple $25/person (please call for individual registration)

Fertility Awareness Workshop

Women’s emotional and physical realities naturally shift and sway just as the tides of the sea rise and fall. Our fertility is one such wave we experience the ebb and flow of for a good share of our lives. We are fortunate to have continually changing body signals that indicate the times of our fertility, the times we are capable of conceiving a child or not. By listening to our bodies, charting our cycles and having a basic sense of our hormonal systems we can know on any given day if we are fertile or infertile. We can watch our cyclical wave of fertility and learn to trust in it and enjoy it. The Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) is a way of learning and keeping track of these changes and using this information to care for our hormonal health and to consciously choose when and if we would like to be pregnant. In this two-day workshop we will learn: Class One -The history of Natural Family Planning and how the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) compares, as well as up-to-date information on it's effectiveness -The various ways a woman's cycle might look and how the hormonal balance effects the length and type of cycle -Anatomy and physiology, discussing the main hormones of the cycle in depth, and how they create signs of fertility -The main signs of fertility and how to track and chart them Class Two -Rules of the method for birth control purposes -Using the method during the span of our reproductive lives: adolescence, conscious conception, postpartum, breastfeeding, menopause -Hormonal imbalances/anovulation/irregular cycles -Supporting the endocrine/hormonal system through lifestyle, diet and other healing modalities FAM is a life-long tool and requires an initial commitment to learning but once practiced is a simple and quick day to day act. I liken it to the daily commitment of brushing ones teeth. The cost of this class includes charts to start with and also a follow-up class which will be organized 3 months from the original class. The follow-up is for clients to come with their charts and ask questions that have arisen in the learning process. It is an integral part of the learning process. Attending the follow-up significantly increases the success of the method. All clients are welcome and encouraged to attend any future follow-ups that I offer for other classes.

Free Meditation and Intro to Vedic Meditation
Sun, July 11th, 12:00 am
info@birthsanctuary.com 310-566-7690
The time has come this month to drop into the Birth Sanctuary to enjoy some free relaxing meditation followed by an optional information session on Vedic Meditation. Peter Vroom (www.theresolutemind.com), a new Sanctuary home birth father is a professional meditation teacher based in Venice with many years of experience. Considered by some a master of Vedic Knowledge Peter will present some of the qualities needed for childbirth and parenting and then lead a meditation designed to allow those qualities to sink in. Meditation has been receiving a lot of press lately as more and more research discovers the many benefits to all aspects of life. From better health and state of mind through to the reversal of aging there is no aspect of life that is not improved in some way by meditation. For this reason it is Peter’s vision that meditation be a daily practice for everyone around the world, just as brushing one’s teeth is today. The good news is that meditation need not be hard. In fact it is so simple and effortless that often the hardest part for students to grasp is just how effortless it is. In fact, the technique is designed for people who live “normal lives” - people who pay bills, have friends, relationships and jobs. Those that already practice Vedic Meditation are welcome to join us as well. We look forward to seeing you!
